음악이 흐르는 그림전

밥이 육신의 일용할 양식이라면 예술은 맑은 영혼을 위한 존재의 양식이다. 이 땅에 예술이 있다는 건 하나님의 거룩한 은총이며 그 은총을 누리며 산다는 것은 아름다운 축복이다. 나아가 예술가로서 예술 활동을 하며 산다는 것은 더더욱 행복하고 복된 일이다.
내가 탁용준 화가와 소중한 인연을 맺게 된 것은 나의 에세이 <사랑하라, 오늘이 마지막인 것처럼>에 그의 그림이 실리게 되면서다. 나는 그에 대해 들은 적도 본적도 없었지만 내 책에 실린 그림을 보고 따뜻한 느낌을 받았다. 마치, 추운 겨울 아침 한 잔의 따뜻한 커피를 마셨을 때 언 가슴이 사르르 녹는 듯한 그런 느낌이었다. 그리고 얼마 있다 그에 대해 알게 되었다. 그가 몸을 마음대로 움직일 수 없다는 것을.

As rice is for our body, art is for our pure soul. Art on this earth is the God’s glorious favor and our living in that favor is a beautiful blessing. Furthermore, living a life as an artist is even happier and luckier.
It was the beginning of our precious encounter when he had provided his paintings in my book, Love as if This Is the Last Moment. Although I had never seen or heard of him, his paintings gave me warm impressions. It was like the feeling of drinking some hot coffee on a cold winter morning, which makes our frozen hearts warm. After a while, I came to know that he was unable to move his body.

2006년 12월 어느 날, 나를 만나고 싶다는 그의 전화를 받고 흔쾌히 응했다. 나는 즐거운 마음으로 그를 만났다. 처음 본 그는 매우 온화한 인상이었다. 그 어디에도 고통의 비애를 느낄 수 없었다. 그는 그림그리기에 혼신을 다 함으로써 감내할 수 없는 시련을 예술의 혼으로 승화시켰던 것이다. 그의 온화한 인상은 혹독하게 자신을 이겨낸 사람만이 보일 수 있는 모습이었다. 순간, 나는 그가 앞으로 좋은 그림을 그릴 수 있겠구나, 라는 생각을 했다. 좋은 그림은 고난의 산을 넘고 시련의 강을 건너 본 사람만이 그릴 수 있기 때문이다. 빈센트 반 고흐. 그는 절대 고독과 지독한 가난 속에서 무명의 삶을 살다 갔지만 오늘 날 그의 그림은 예술적 가치를 높이 평가받고 있다.

One day in December, 2006, I got a phone call from him asking me to see him, which I accepted with all my heart. I was happy to see him and found out that he was such a bright person without a hint of either agony or sorrow. I thought it was because of his having overcome, by means of devoting himself to painting, all the insurmountable trials that were finally transformed into the noble artistic spirit. Such mild and bright facial expressions are just permitted only to those who have overcome their harsh destiny. Then, I believed that he would be able to paint good pictures. It is because that only those who have survived all the troubles and trials in life can paint good pictures. While alive, Vincent Van Gogh was poverty-stricken in his absolute solitude without any fame. However, his art is highly evaluated nowadays.

가난과 고독은 인간에게 있어 참을 수 없는 고통이지만 예술가에게는 창작의 에너지이다. 그도 이를 잘 알고 있다. 그랬기에 남보다 열배 백배 아니 그 이상 힘든 고통을 참아내며 한 땀 한 땀 수를 놓듯 한 터치 한 터치의 붓놀림에 혼신을 다하는 것이다. 그의 그림은 손으로 그린 것이 아니다. 그의 영혼이 그린 것이다. 그의 내면 깊이 뜨겁게 살아 흐르는 열정이 타 오르는 한 줄기 혼 불이 되어 하나의 그림으로 되살아나는 것이다.
Poverty and solitude are the unbearable agony to human beings, yet, they are creative energy to artists. He is aware of this well, too. Therefore, he makes his utmost efforts enduring all his troubles to engage himself in completing every stoke he makes as if he embroiders some cloth. His paintings are drawn not by hand but by soul. The living passion deep inside him revives as a spiritual torch becoming a painting.

그가 자신의 소중한 영혼의 분신들을 한 자리에 모아 생명과 사랑과 축복이 있는 ‘음악이 흐르는 그림 전’을 연다. 이 얼마나 값지고 보람 된 결실인가. 바쁜 일상에서 잠시 손을 내려놓고 행복이 가득한 풍요로운 잔치에 함께 어우러지는 흥겨운 시간이 되었으면 한다.
탁용준 화가가 자신만의 예술세계를 활짝 펴 나갈 수 있도록 많은 사람들의 따스한 격려와 사랑이 넘치길 소망한다.

The exhibition, Paintings in Music, is a collection of his spiritual selves. It is full of life, love and bliss - the most precious and fruitful. Everyone will be invited to share the good time of excitement and happiness away from his or her busy routine for a while. Also, I do hope that we can encourage this artist, Young Joon Tak, with love in order for him to make a splendid progress in his artistic world.
